The baby born in a manger was named Jesus but prophets, shephers, wise men, and angels addressed Him by other names. the called Him, Lord, Messiah, Savior, Emmanuel, Shepherd, Light of the World and Word made Flesh.
This year from Advent to Epiphany,
we will explore these titles and what they tell us about the child whose birth we celebrate a t Christmas. May we all rediscover the significance of the Chirst-child for our lives and our world.

Many people would say that we are eager to have a good life, especially in these days of COVID and civil unrest. God's view of what is good is different than you may think. A biblical good life is rooted in justice and mercy for others and a deepening relationship with God. We don't need to wait any longer to begin good living but we do need a solid understanding of what God requires so that our attitudes, actions and choices will reflect God's love and nature.

Many people describe the way they are feeling these days as weird, tired and frazzled. Scripture instructs us to "praise the Lord at all times" (Psalm 34:1). In this series we will explore the benefits to wroshipping god in the midst of trouble.

This summer let's take a virtual pilgrimage in the Holy Land. Our church's trip was cancelled because of COVID-19, but together we can learn about many of the holy sites they planned to visit in Israel and hear Bible stories from those locations. May we all experience an abundance of God's love and growth in our discipleship as we travel through this sacred place.

God delivered his people from bondage, through the wilderness and into the promised land. Along the unknown way, God nurtured qualities for success in his people. As we move through this time of quarantine to staged opening to new normal, we are all in unknown territory. God hears us, loves us and will provide all we need to thrive now and in the future.

Anyone who believes in Jesus as Lord and accepts God’s loving grace has been born again into a new life. During the Great 50 Days of Easter, we will use wisdom from 1 Peter, which was written to Christians scattered and distressed, to grow in our own strength, holiness and hope.

A meeting with Jesus Christ offers an opportunity and invites a response. The gospel scriptures introduce us to many people who heard Jesus speak a word about their life. Some responded with joy and gratitude. Some ignored or rejected his word to them. In this worship series, we will also hear stories from congregants about how Jesus has impacted their lives and be invited to reflect on our own unfinished stories.

The Apostles’ Creed is an ancient statement of faith. At CUMC, we teach it to confirmands and recite it with our baptismal liturgy. Do we understand what we are saying? Do our beliefs translate into noticeable life transformation? The hope of this series is that exploring unbelievers will be exposed to the basics of faith, that believers will be helped to articulate their faith for sharing faith stories, and that all might be changed by grace.
